Eventing team jumps into a new season
Last weekend the USC Aiken Eventing team had four of its riders compete in the USEA/USEF Recognized Horse trials at Paradise Farm.
Eventing consists of three disciplines that the rider must compete in, in order to get a combined total for their final score and placing: dressage, stadium and cross-country.
The first rider to show was Virginia Quarles, riding Classic Red in the open novice division. In dressage she placed 7th with a starting score of 36.7. In stadium jumping she knocked a rail with no time faults, ending with a score of 40.7 and placing her in 7th place. In cross-country she had an elapsed time of 4:16 which, when totaled together with her other two disciplines, gave her a final score of 40.70, putting her in 5th place.
The second rider to show was Jessica Wymbs, riding Weight of the World in the Beginner Novice division. She placed 5th in dressage with a starting score of 39. Knocking one rail and earning 12 time faults, she ended stadium with a score of 55. In cross-country she cleared the course, and ended with a final scoring of 55:00, placing her in fourth for her division.
In the starter division, rider Bailey Hamilton piloted FGF Supermassive Black Hole to a starting score of 36.7 in dressage, placing 3rd. For stadium she earned a double clear, ending with a score of 36.70, and staying in 3rd place. She ended the round on cross-country with another double clear, and ended the day with her starting score of 36.70 and 3rd place overall.
Also riding in the starter division, Keileigh McMurray rode on Skyline Fire Dance with a starting score of 33.3, placing her 2nd in dressage. In stadium jumping she earned a double clear keeping her score of 33.3, and staying in 2nd. Going into cross-country, Keileigh earned another double clear and finished with her starting score of 33.3, keeping her in 2nd in the final standings.
