COVID-19 update: U.S. falls third in highest coronavirus cases worldwide

According to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 tracker, there are now 32,644 total confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States.

With 409 deaths and 178 recovered, that puts active cases at 32,057.

The highest U.S. count is in New York state, with 15,777 confirmed cases, followed by states like New Jersey, California and Washington, which have less than 2000 each.

Above the U.S. in number of cases is Italy, with 59,138 total. The death count is high (5,476), but falls short of the total recovered (7,024). That puts active cases in Italy at 46,639

The highest count worldwide falls in China at 81,397, with 3,265 deaths and 72,362 recovered. There are only 5,770 active cases currently.
