The legacy of Bill Withers
American songwriter, singer and guitarist Bill Withers passed away at the age of 81, due to a cardiovascular disease on March 30, in Los Angeles, California.
Withers wrote and sang many popular songs such as “Lean on Me,” “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Moanin’ and Groanin’,” “Let It Be” and “World Keeps Going Around.”
His song “Lean on Me” has been coined as the anthem during crises such as the horrendous earthquakes that wrecked Haiti in 2010 as well as after the destruction caused by both hurricanes Irma and Harvey.
Once again, “Lean on Me” is being sung in times of pain and suffering during the coronavirus pandemic.
In this video, nurses all join their voices in singing “Lean on Me” while making masks to combat the virus.
A second video shows family, friends and passerbys singing “Lean on Me” outside of a senior care facility in Calgary, Texas to show support to the hospital staff and others working during this trying time.
The support shown to the essential workers and others is beautiful and heartwarming.
The legacy that Bill Withers left behind is one of connection, love, perseverance and triumph over difficult and trying times.
