The state of COVID-19 in United States, South Carolina and Aiken County
COVID-19 has reached a record infection rate in the United States with 1,351,624 total new cases on Jan. 10, according to CDC data. All information is current as of Thursday, Jan. 13.
The Delta and Omicron variants are confirmed in the United States. A new variant unofficially called “Ihu” has been located in France but has not been diagnosed in the United States as of the time of publishing.
On the same day in South Carolina, 8,149 new cases were reported. The seven-day average for the state is 88,895 cases. The seven-day average for deaths is 18 for the state.
Aiken County reports having 1,936 new cases in the past seven days. There have been less than 10 deaths in the last seven days from COVID-19 in the county. 47.7% of the county’s population over the age of 5 have been fully vaccinated.
Free testing is available Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the USC Aiken Convocation Center. The university has offered vaccination in the last two semesters. Students can find a vaccination location here. Students who test positive should notify the COVID Coordinators.
