Staff Spotlight: Isaiah Gillian
This week’s staff spotlight goes to Isaiah Gillian, the Arts & Events editor.
Gillian is a sophomore secondary education major with a concentration in English. He is planning on getting a second degree in English after he completes his first degree.
He stated that he joined Pacer Times (PT), because he thought that it would be helpful for his growth in writing and editing since he wanted to be a teacher. He also wanted the experience of working on a newspaper.
“I found the idea fun to help better understand different areas of campus,” Gillian said.
Aside from being an editor on PT, he has been heavily active on campus since he was a freshman. He is a part Teaching Fellows, the co-president of the Pacer Union Board (PUB), a member of NSLS and he was a Pacesetter this past summer.
When asked what his favorite memory in college so far has been, he stated that it was the time he received the New Student Leadership Award his freshman year at the Leadership Banquet.
“I wasn’t expecting to be the one to get it, but it made me ecstatic,” said Gillian. “Reading the letters of recommendation after really made me feel confident that I’m on the right path.”
The one piece of advice he would give to students is to get involved. He stated that when he first came to college, he wasn’t planning on being active on campus besides Teaching Fellows and theatre. However, since getting involved, many opportunities have opened for Gillian.
