The Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo duo close out the Cultural Series
The Cultural Series at the Etherredge Center will be coming to its conclusion for the season on April 29th, with a sure-to-be ecstatic final performance by the Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo duo.
Marsalis is a highly distinguished musician who has been playing for over thirty years. Marsalis’s intelligence and musical senses are able to bring both classical and jazz together with his dual careers as a jazz and classical saxophonist. Marsalis has been recognized many times for his artistic exceptionalism, as he has won multiple prestigious awards including three Grammy and Tony award winnings under his belt. Marsalis has received a citation by the National Endowment for the Arts as a Jazz Master and an avatar of contemporary artistic excellence. He has performed classical works by composers such as Aaron Copeland, Claude Debussy, Gustav Mahler and Ralph Vaughan Williams among many others.
Joey Calderazzo is an esteemed pianist having published 13 records. He has also been a long-time accompanist for Marsalis. Marsalis has played for Broadway and big-screen performances alike, including music from Spike Lee’s “Mo’ Better Blues,” “A Raisin in the Sun,” and Ma Rainey’s “Black Bottom.”
The Cultural Series, which always brings some of the finest musicians to USC Aiken, is set to produce its final performance of the semester at 7:00 p.m. in the Etherredge Center. You won’t want to miss this unforgettable duo!
