Date Night: Woodchuckers Axe Throwing

Upon entering Woodchuckers, you are required to sign safety waivers as well as pick the duration of throwing time you want. This ranges from thirty minutes ($15-17 per person), an hour ($18-22 per person), or even two hours ($36-44 per person). With bigger groups, more time is optimal, but groups of two can get the perfect amount of throwing done within thirty minutes!
Woodchucker’s also has the option of water, soda, and four draft beers. So if you’re 21+, then enjoy a cold beer while waiting for your turn.
The establishment consists of around ten different throwing lanes. Each lane is covered with a cage so that stray axes do not hit anyone. The lanes also have tape on the floor to allow throwers to have a safe point to throw from without the axe potentially bouncing back and harming you.
There is a large wooden target on each lane as well so you can keep score in a competitive game or just work on your aim.
The throwing lanes also have a choice of two different axes. They are both the same weight (five pounds) but different lengths. The longer one spins slower, which is great for beginners. The shorter axe has a much faster spin, which is recommended for more experienced throwers.
While throwing each lane is given an “Axe-pert” that demonstrates different methods to throw the axe safely. They demonstrate the correct positions for one and two-handed throws. Once you start to practice they will watch you and give you pointers on how to throw more effectively.
Recently I went with my boyfriend for his birthday, and we had a blast! We went on a Tuesday night, which was perfect because nobody else was there. This allowed us to get extra pointers from our “Axe-pert”. Personally, I had a really hard time getting my axe to stick, but I was given so many helpful pointers that I was an “Axe-pert” myself after thirty minutes.
