The Music Industry is Dead: TikTok Takeover

We have been witnessing a slow decline in the music industry—specifically hip-hop. During the pandemic, many songs have gone viral on TikTok. TikTok has been the most popular social media app since 2019. Virality has taken over talent as we see ordinary people reach stardom. 

TikTok recently partnered with Billboard to create a billboard chart for songs on the app. When songs go viral, a dance trend is created and millions of people create videos participating in the trend. The song grows in popularity and would catapult an artist's career. Rappers such as Ice Spice and Sexxy Redd have similarly come up in the music industry. Their songs go viral and become stars overnight.
