Pacesetters are orientation leaders who help new students acclimate to campus life. The organization is widely known among the campus community for its service to students and leadership opportunities for its members.
Makayla Adams, current Pacesetter Team Leader, shared her experience of being a part of the organization and how it has positively impacted her university experience.
“My favorite part of being a Pacesetter team lead is watching the Pacesetters grow throughout the year. This year's group is phenomenal, and I am so proud of them already. I can't wait to see what this summer has in store for them.”
Those accepted into the organization are required to attend multiple trainings over the summer. The trainings are meant to ensure that the members are best equipped to handle student situations and serve incoming freshmen.
“One of the biggest opportunities is becoming a Student Coordinator of Leadership Programs. I plan to be an Elementary Teacher after graduation and being able to be a TA for some leadership classes now is helping me grow in my education field.”
Jadynn McHanon, another Pacesetter Team Lead, much like Adams shares that she has gained multiple opportunities being in the organization.
“From being in this organization, I have been able to immerse myself in Student Life. I've been able to travel, meet new people, and expand my professional and leadership skills. Best of all, I have the opportunity to be surrounded by high-achieving, driven individuals who inspire me to do more.”
McHanon also shares that her love for Pacesetting is also from being a resource to students in need:
“My favorite part about being a Pacesetter was seeing the impact of my work. Students would always come in on orientation day with nerves and uncertainty, and my job was to help them relax their worries and get them ready for their first day. This is a job with a lasting impact. I still serve as a resource for many of the students I've helped during their orientation, and it makes me happy to know I am someone they can rely on.”
