E-Sports: Doubleheader USCA vs University Of Montevallo & Florida Southern College
USCA’s Overwatch team closed out the season with a doubleheader on Sunday, October 17.
The first match was played against the University of Montevallo. The first round had the teams facing off on Lijiang Tower, a control map. The teams first battled over the point on Control center, with the round going to Montevallo. For round two, USCA took the round on the Night Market section of the map, forcing a round 3. The final round had the teams travel to the Garden section of the map where USCA was unable to secure the point, losing the map overall.
The second map of the set was played on King’s Row, a hybrid map. USCA and Montevallo were both able to secure the payload, then push it to the end of the map. This led to the teams having to face off on the map in another round of defense and offense. This round took the teams’ remaining time as the round timers. The objectives remained the same in this special round type. Montevallo was able to push their payload farther than USCA, securing the map and the set.
In the second set, the team was against Florida Southern College. The first map had the teams facing off on Nepal, a control map. The first stage was played on the Shrine section, with the second being played on Sanctum. USCA was unable to secure the point on either section. The second map had the team traveling back to King’s Row. Florida Southern was able to hold off USCA’s assault, winning the set.
“Even though we may not have had the best season, we had lots of fun playing, and [I] met some really kind people. All in all, my first year playing with the team was a lot of fun and I learned some new things while playing,” said Dawson Harriell, one of the team’s support players. “The team was great and hopefully we get to play again next year. We can only get better as we keep playing together.”
