Counterfeit Pills

Back in September, fake orange pills made to look like Adderall that contained methamphetamine were seized in Richland County. USC police sent out an alert to warn students about the dangers of these counterfeit pills.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has encouraged universities to educate students about the potential hazards of taking these street medications.

The Drug Enforcement Agency has said that they can be purchased online and through social media without a prescription. This makes them readily accessible to anyone. Even pills given to you by a friend may not be trusted.

DHEC reminds students that they should only use medications that are prescribed to them by a medical professional and dispensed by a licensed pharmacist.

 At U of SC Aiken, there is a detailed drug use policy that can be accessed here. According to the university website, there are several services available to students on campus who are struggling with drug abuse. The counseling center at U of SC Aiken offers support for drug abuse problems as well as a wide variety of other issues, including anxiety and depression. Despite these services, students will still face consequences if they are charged with violating state and federal laws.
