Homecoming Recap 2023
Although I was robbed the past two homecomings due to Covid-19 this year’s homecoming made up for it.
To start it off on Monday, February 13, was the annual Pacer Madness event. The event was a pep rally filled with different activities such as group games, a student-teacher dance-off, and hyping up our women’s and men’s basketball teams as they take on our rival team Augusta University that upcoming Wednesday.
The different organizations in the homecoming event had to participate in different competitive games such as a relay race. It consisted of a group of five. The first person had to run around the chair once, then the second two had to go around the chair while keeping a balloon up without using their hands. Lastly, the last two people in the group were tied together by their legs and had to go around the chair once.
The student-teacher dance-off consisted of one member from the USCA Spirit Squad and a USCA professor doing an eight-count dance routine created by the two. This was honestly one of the best parts of homecoming. I loved every bit of watching our professors show off their best moves. Overall Sociology Professor Johnson and Shevonne Denae won the competition.
On Wednesday, February 15, was the away rival basketball game against Augusta University. We had already beaten them at a home game a few weeks ago so we had to make sure it happened again.
Surprisingly for it to be an away game we had a pretty huge crowd full of USC Aiken fans. Sadly the women's basketball team didn’t win, but the men's team made up for it.
The Augusta crowd was filled throughout the arena with a student section on both sides of the court and old fans on the home side. Clearly, the two teams weren’t too fond of each other and also the fans as well.
The overall game was so intense. Our boys stayed in the lead for the majority of the game until the next quarter Augusta caught up, but this didn’t stop our boys. My friends and I were screaming as loud as we could, supporting our team and leading them to victory. The men's team won, beating them 95 to 85.
The last event was on Saturday, February 18, the homecoming tailgate and doubleheader basketball game.
The tailgate is hosted by the USC Aiken Black Alumni Council every year. It began at The field outside the convocation center was a field with tables lined up from different sororities and fraternities. The environment was filled with good vibes, great music, and food.
The doubleheader was against Young Harris College. The women's team came through with a win leading 68 to 66. During the men’s halftime, they announced the 2022-2023 USC Aiken Homecoming Queen and King. The two winners were Justice English and Xavier Pierce. Ending homecoming week the men won with a nine-point lead 66 to 57.
