The VMSS Sip N’ Learn Event
The Office of Veteran and Military Student Success hosted yet another networking event on Wed. Feb. 21st. The Sip N’ Learn event allowed students from all different departments to gather in the Penland Courtyard to share their academic experiences within their majors.
The purpose of these events is to provide marketing opportunities for students. The Office of Veteran and Military Student Success shares a unique cohort of veteran and military-affiliated students from different stages of life and education. Largely consisting of “non-traditional” students, the VMSS strives to ensure that despite differences in age, life experience, and academic specialty, there is a community that understands the nuances of military life during and after time in service.
Refreshments were provided and an hour of mingling ensued. Students and VMSS team members can be seen trading advice, sharing class recommendations, and encouraging one another on their academic paths. Though networking around professionals in your chosen field of study is important, it is important to not forget that established individuals may be on their way out by the time you’re in the workforce. Networking with your peers and building connections with them is important because you are walking into the workforce together after graduation.
Keep an eye out for the next Sip N’ Learn event! Each Sip N’ Learn event provides a unique opportunity for an equally unique student body.
