Weekly Briefing: Bee aware of this week's buzz

We have entered our fourth full week of classes and USC Aiken is buzzing with athletics and ICE events.

The Student Government Association held their annual shirting ceremony, which is detailed in an article by News Editor Noelle Kriegel.

It was a bad week for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams, with both being defeated in their respective games.

Women’s soccer team coach Hilary George mentioned that her team is still struggling to meld the new players with the returning ones.

Though they haven’t had a win yet, Sports Editor Michael Kuras has noted the efforts of Kenneth Kalek- a member of the men’s soccer team- in both of their games this season.

The volleyball team made up for soccer’s losses by winning all four games at their two-day invitational this weekend. Editor Kuras covered the game with his camera. The gallery can be found here.

Jenesis Garcia and Paige Davis held a vigil in the quad to observe World Suicide Prevention Day. Attendees lit candles and held a period of silence in honor of those who have been lost to suicide. A&E Editor Emma Watts covered the event and took photos.

Finally, I mentioned in last week’s briefing that USCA had been ranked No. 2 in the 2020 U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges Guide. This week I interviewed three university officials about the win and wrote up an article, which includes information on how the rankings are calculated.

That’s it for this week, Pacers. We’ll see you next Tuesday.
