Column: Why NEDA week is important

Editor’s Note: The following content discusses eating disorders. Please continue with caution and remember that the Counseling Center is available for all students in need.

I am an undergraduate clinical psychology student with multiple psychological and physical comorbidities and I want to inform and challenge those of us who are in recovery from eating disorders to come as we are this week.

National Eating Disorders Awareness (NEDA) Week began Feb. 24 and goes until Mar. 2 of this year.

NEDA is an annual national campaign that is held to raise awareness for eating disorder recovery, provide resources for those who are curious about these disorders or are seeking treatment.

This year the theme is “Come as You Are: Hindsight is 20/20,” with the idea that those of us that are in recovery will reflect on that we have accomplished, from the trials to the stumbling blocks and find our way to accepting ourselves.

Eating disorders may be treated with nutrition counseling, dietician counseling, medication management, psychiatric care and therapy, and short-term or residential hospitalization.

If you are in immediate need of crisis assistance, please call (800) 931-2237 or text “NEDA” to 741-741.
