Dorm Dash: Baked brie
Brie has always been one of my favorite cheeses. It’s super creamy and it pairs well with so many different flavors. My favorite way to make it is always to pair it with something sweet. For the Thanksgiving appetizer this year instead of making my usual charcuterie board for my family, I made this baked brie. It was gone in less than a minute, so you might want to make two if you’re going somewhere with cheese lovers like my family.
Ingredients:
· 1 wheel of brie cheese
· As much fig jam as your heart desires
· Defrosted puff pastry (you can find this in the frozen section as most grocery stores)
· 1 beaten egg to use as an egg wash
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven according to puff pastry package directions.
2. Cut off the top rind from the brie.
3. Put a large scoop of fig jam on top of the brie. Make sure you have an even amount spread all across the wheel.
4. Spread a small amount of fig jam on one side of a sheet of defrosted puff pastry.
5. Place the brie, fig jam side down, into the middle of the puff pastry.
6. Wrap the puff pastry around the bottom of the brie. Make sure there are no openings in the puff pastry for the jam and cheese to seep out of.
7. Place wrapped brie on a greased baking sheet, with the flat side of the puff pastry facing upwards. You want the side you put the fig jam on to be on the top.
8. Brush beaten egg over the puff pastry. This will help get a beautiful golden color on the puff pastry.
9. Bake brie according to puff pastry package directions. It will likely take longer than this, but at the end of the time that the package instructions calls for is when you should begin checking on it in your oven. You will know it is ready when the puff pastry is golden and has puffed up.
10. Allow baked brie to cool for a few minutes before digging in. Enjoy!
