USC Aiken Has A Disc Golf Class!
The exercise and sports science department offers a one-credit hour disc golf class that uses the on-campus course.
The disc golf class meets on Thursdays and is instructed by Psychology Professor Dr. Adam Pazda who loves the sport.
Dr. Pazda states:
“I love playing disc golf and I want to share my love of the sport with people who might not have been exposed to it before, people who heard about it but maybe don’t know the rules or strategy and it’s just a fun way to spend some time outside with good people walking around and having fun.”
At the beginning of the semester, Dr. Pazda goes over the rules, different throwing techniques and types of discs. He gives drills and does competitions for fun within the class. His goal for students is an improvement for them to do better than they did the last time.
Genesis Taylor, a psychology major in her last year at USC Aiken, didn’t know about disc golf as a sport before taking the class. She needed one more credit for the semester and knew Dr. Pazda was instructing the class.
“If someone just needs a class that you know they just need a credit and they want a cool teacher and [want to] learn something new, take disc golf,” recommends Taylor.
Her favorite part of the class has been making new connections on campus among her classmates.
Another student in the course, Dillon Wolford is a senior exercise and sports science major who wanted an escape from classes.
Wolford exclaimed:
“I wanted to do something active, I’m a very active person.”
He has experience playing disc golf for about a year and believes he’s learned new things from the class. He enjoys the outdoors and recommends anyone who also enjoys being outside to take this class.
Students enjoy the disc golf course but have announced the maintenance of the grounds could improve as they struggle to retrieve their discs due to the surrounding vegetation.
The class will be offered next semester on Thursdays from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will continue to be instructed by Dr. Pazda.
