Weekly Briefing: We need some help, Pacers

USC Aiken, we have a problem.

Pacer Times is working overtime to make sure that our student body has well-written and interesting articles to read every Tuesday morning, but we need some help.

We are currently looking for reporters, photographers and illustrators, along with a copy editor, business manager, lifestyle editor and opinions editor. Previous experience would be great, but is absolutely not required for reporters. We are more than willing to train those who have never written for a newspaper before. Some experience is required for the editor and business manager positions, but we are also willing to work with those who are new to journalism.

Please contact me at CMY@USCA.EDU if you are interested in joining our staff and come to our meetings on Mondays at 5 p.m. in the Student Media Office behind Starbucks. We would love to have you!

We are currently 1/3 of the way through the semester and fall break is approaching rapidly. Here’s what’s in the news this week.

The men’s soccer team had a difficult game against Southern Wesleyan University last Wednesday, continuing through their already difficult semester with another loss.

On the other hand, the women’s volleyball team continued their impressive winning streak, knocking out all four games last weekend.

A new chief of police was announced by the Chancellor’s office earlier this month. News Editor Noelle Kriegel contacted university officials and got some informative quotes about the new chief. She will follow-up with an in-depth profile of Chief Jason Zike later this semester.

Editor Kriegel also wrote a blistering column about the realities facing students who need tutoring in higher level courses at USCA. In her opinion, the university is not doing enough to help students with more challenging, upper-level maths and sciences.

A&E Editor Emma Watts wrote about Alpha Omicron Pi’s “Run for the Roses” event, which happened last weekend at Oktoberfest in downtown Aiken. She will be covering our sorority philanthropy beat for the foreseeable future.

Check out the other articles in this week’s issue and we will see you next Tuesday, Pacers.
