Dorm Dash: Miso maple pork
I’ve recently started making this miso maple pork and it’s become the No. 1 thing I crave. This dish is the perfect blend of sweet, salty and umami, and each bite will keep you coming back for more.
Ingredients:
½ lb boneless pork loin, cut into cubes
3 tbsps soy sauce
2 tbsps sesame oil
¼ tbsp ground ginger
½ tbsp garlic powder
¼ tsp white pepper
1 heaping tbsp white miso paste
¼ cup maple syrup
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp corn starch
Salt and black pepper to taste
Optional: chopped green onions and sesame seeds
Directions:
For the marinade, mix the soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, garlic powder and white pepper together and pour over your cubed pork in a Ziploc bag. Freeze for a few hours to a few days. The longer the pork marinates, the more it absorbs the flavor of the marinade.
Once marinated, pour the bag into a pan over medium heat. Sear pork on all sides. Push to the side of the pan to make room to create the sauce.
Mix and melt butter and miso paste in the pan.
Add and mix maple syrup in the pan.
Sprinkle your corn starch into the sauce and mix until there are no lumps. This will create a thicker sauce.
Toss the pork in the sauce.
Season the dish with salt and black pepper to taste. The soy sauce and miso are both naturally salty, so be sure to taste before adding salt.
Optionally, you may top this dish with chopped green onion and sesame seeds. I also recommend adding your favorite bag of frozen stir fry vegetables or whatever vegetables your heart desires. Serving this dish over rice is also recommended.
Enjoy! This dish will stay good in the fridge for a few days and you will be dreaming about the leftovers.
