SGA's 2024-2025 Elections
The Student Government Association will be holding elections on Mar. 27 and 28.
The current president, Judson Pickett, will not be running for reelection, leaving the position open for another student.
One candidate for the position is Richy “Appa” Modugu. Modugu is a Pacesetter and currently serves as the SGA Vice President.
Modugu has worked hard to make connections within the community to advance the organization and provide positive interactions with the student body,
“One person I would be more than happy to work with is the CEO of SRP Federal Credit Union, Mr. Eric Jenkins. Even though this year is coming to an end I’ve been planning with Mr. Jenkins for future events with SGA…I believe that I can bring more involvement with the Aiken community to our university. There are so many small businesses that would be more than happy to partner with Aiken to showcase their work and potentially form a connection with the university for the benefit of the school and our students.”
Modugu feels like his passion for the school and hardworking personality is why he’d be a good fit for the president position.
During my campaign speech, I made the statement that “I can outwork anyone”. I stand by that statement and I will be more than happy to prove that if elected. Even now, I’ve spent nights and sometimes whole days planning for upcoming SGA events even when I could have done it another way or a slack-like way. I also bring connections I need with other organizations, people that I believe can benefit SGA well.
Also running for the president position is Byron Tapia-Perez.
Candidates for vice president include Nya Washington , Christina Buck, Preston Bray and Juan Wiley.
Washington is active in multiple organizations on campus. She serves as the president of Glowl1ght Dance Crew, Secretary of the Council of Business Students, member of the Black Student Union and SGA’s Senator of Diversity and International Programs.
Just completing her first year in SGA, she’s discovered new methods to interact with students and provide something fresh to the Vice President position.
In completing my first year of serving SGA, I have learned a different way to interact with students who want to see our campus do well, as well as fine-tuned skills that I normally use such as time management and patience. I also have a creative spirit and a strong sense of determination to be better, and with these skills, I would be a perfect right hand to the new SGA President.
She intends to make an effort to bridge the gap between the students and organizations on campus.
“I can introduce a sense of intercommunity between our smaller interest-based student organizations on campus. While I agree that Greek Life and community service are wonderful ways to get involved in your community, interests like reading, dancing, history and philosophy, encourage people to find an even ground on their current interests to grow and flourish.”
